Library - FAQs

Does the library have a discussion room?

If you need an area for discussion, just approach any librarian so that he/she can find one for you. Usually, it would be the UP MBA Society Corner located on the first floor, which also houses the doctoral dissertations and the Lawag J. Fonacier Library Collection in International Business.

Is the use of the library exclusive to UP VSB students and faculty?

No, the library is open to all bona fide students, faculty members, researchers and staff of the University upon presentation of a valid ID. Members of the graduate business library consortium may use the library resources upon presentation of their valid school and consortium IDs. Alumni, Non-UP researchers and graduate students of other universities and colleges may use the library upon presentation of UP Alumni and valid IDs, referral letter, and payment for the library fee. Non-UP researchers are accepted only on Mondays 8 am to 5 pm.

How much do I pay if I fail to return a book on time?

If the book is part of the Reserve Collection, the fine is P5.00 per hour or P50.00 per day (including Saturdays and Sundays) for each book not returned on the due date.

If the book is part of the Circulation Collection, the fine is P2.00 per day (excluding Sundays and holidays) for each book.

Dictionaries, guides, encyclopedias, directories, handbooks, manuals, indexes, yearbooks, and almanacs are for room use only.

Can I check out the almanac over at the reference section?

Unfortunately, no. All reference materials like dictionaries, guides, encyclopedias, directories, handbooks, manuals, indexes, yearbooks, and almanacs are for room use only.

How do I borrow a book?

First off, find the book you are looking for. You may need the OPAC for that.

If the material is part of the Circulation Collection, just take it from the shelf on the first floor and bring it over the lending desk on the second floor if you want to check it out.

If it is part of the Reserve Collection, just approach the librarian stationed on the Reserve desk on the second floor and provide the title and author of the book you are looking for. Be mindful of the rules about the reserve collection, though. The rules can be found on the home page. If you want to check the book out, just approach the lending desk.

For periodicals, you need to accomplish the Periodical Call Slip and give it to the librarian who then will find it for you. Please be reminded that periodicals are for room use only. However, they can be photocopied if needed.
