Deloitte Tax Challenge is an annual tax-based competition that is designed to encourage and develop students from higher learning institutions to hone their tax knowledge, improve their engagement capabilities, and articulate their insights and views on communication and writing skills.

“As I have shared with the Challengers, to be a tax professional today is not just about being technically competent. A successful tax professional needs to have strong engagement and communications skills to articulate their insights and views in writing, in speaking with stakeholders and presenting at the highest level,” said Yee Wing Peng, Deloitte Malaysia country tax leader. One week before the competition, finalist teams were given a hypothetical international tax case based on three frameworks: BEPS actions 1-13, OECD guidelines and Model convention of the UN. Nine national finalists from various collegiate teams presented and responded to questions from a panel of judges. Two other UP-VSB teams (Dean Atienza, Ruth Gruyal, Minette Megino, Miriam Miciano, Rolly Amoroso, Andrea Dimayacyac, Donna Dela Cruz, Daryl Fabellon) and a De La Salle team tied for second place.
