Last November 1, 2019, a team from the U.P. Virata School of Business (UPVSB) claimed the Gold Prize from the Wing Lung Bank International Institute for Business Development (IIBD) International Case Competition held in Hong Kong. The team was composed of 5th year BSBA students Danielle Alison Black, Isabelle Beatriz Ginez, Johanne Jazmin Jabines, and Louise Hezekiah Rance. This is the first time UPVSB participated in the competition, with the team besting over 40 universities from 19 countries worldwide.

The Wing Lung Bank IIBD is an international consortium of universities in Australia, Canada, China, Sweden, Thailand, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the UK, and the US. Hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) since its creation in 1993, its mission is to facilitate the growth and development of international business education activities through the cooperation and joint ventures with its global network (HKBU official website).

The IIBD International Case Competition was established in 2008 to invite both IIBD member and non-member universities in tackling real-world business problems, which showcase strategic challenges and managerial issues, and to network with global peers and industry professionals.

With this year's theme of "Feeding the World," the written proposal from UPVSB was among the five that were selected from the preliminary round to advance in the finals. Other finalist universities include Ateneo de Manila University, National University of Singapore, Hong Kong Baptist University, and National Research University - Higher School of Economics in Russia.

A trophy, certificates, and cash prizes were awarded to the winning teams. UPVSB Assistant Professor Al-Habbyel Yusoph coached the team for this competition.
